The City of Northfield has received numerous complaints regarding Northfield Estates, the 54-unit apartment complex on Highway 3 North. The City’s Building Inspections Division has confirmed violations related to health, safety and property maintenance. In a press release, the City writes, “Due to possible health and safety concerns, these violations have risen to a level where additional action is required”. The City will be completing a unit-by-unit inspection of the entire property including common areas. Residents will be notified and the City will seek consent to legally enter individual units for
inspection. Corrective actions will take place as necessary. The City of Northfield is encouraging current tenants to contact the Building Inspection Division at (507) 645-3004 to make a report or complaint. If there’s immediate corrective action related to health and safety concerns needed, it will be pursued. Those situations will be handled separately and in addition to the pending unit-by-unit inspection. Administrator Ben Martig says no residents personal information will be made available to the public including the building owners and management. Additionally, the City does not solicit immigration information or inquire about immigration status of any person related to inspection of rental housing complaints.
Civil Air Patrol starts unit at Stanton Airfield
The Red Wing Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol has established a CAP unit at the Stanton Airfield. They’ll hold their first meeting tonight at 7 o’clock in the Operations building. Major Stephen Wall said the CAP was active in Stanton during WWII, training pilots but never established as a regular base until now. A group of soon-to-be cadets visiting Red Wing, asked to start their own unit at Stanton Airfield. After months of preparations it’s become a reality. The Civil Air Patrol has 3 missions. Wall said their primary mission is aviation search and rescue. They have aircraft and ground teams. The Air Force notifies them of crashes and they respond. They do 85 to 90{b5761be34e80a16b6d0e4dabc1869c131a263f96a745c82bebdd3b8a4330bfa9} of all inland air search and rescue missions in the U.S. The all-volunteer air and ground crews also search for lost people, provide border patrol protection and assist DEA and local law enforcement when needed. They also provide public education on aviation from basic to advanced. Their 3rd mission is the Cadet program which provides leadership development in aviation education plus an opportunity for the Cadets to learn how to fly. They hold flight academies every summer. This first official meeting tonight is open to everyone of all ages who are interested in the all-volunteer Civil Air Patrol.
