At about 10:30 a.m. on February 3, 2017, Northfield Police Officers executed a search Warrant at a business in the 1000 block of Highway #3 South. The warrant was the result of an investigation related to potential prostitution and/or human trafficking. NPD was assisted by investigators from the MNBCA Predatory Crimes Unit and the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force.
The officers detained several people and arrested an adult male on probable cause for promotion of prostitution. The male was placed in the Rice County Jail and is expected to be charged in Rice County Court on Monday.
The investigation is still open and will likely continue for several weeks. No further information is available for release at this time.
The Northfield Police Department would like to thank all those agencies who assisted and those who continue to aid with the investigation. The NPD would also like to thank members of the Community who provided information related to this investigation.
Please direct any inquiries to Chief of Police Monte Nelson at 507-663-9301.

In an email, Chief Nelson said,
This investigation is very important to the health and safety of our community. The investigation is continuing, so not many details are available for release at this time. Hopefully, more information will be made public when the male is charged on Monday.
There will be important conversation and consideration in the future regarding potential steps the City can take to better prevent, prepare for, and deal with these types of situations.
I am very thankful for the work of our investigators and the two task forces who were responsible for this investigation.
