Plan to attend the 2017 Horticulture Day….Gardening: Not Just A Summer Project!
It’s time to “Think Spring”! On Saturday, March 11th, the Rice County Master Gardeners will host their annual Horticulture Day, featuring speakers on orchids, common plant diseases, hydroponic gardening and new ideas in landscaping for 2017. The event will be held at Buntrock Commons on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Our first speaker will be Michelle Grabowski, U of M Assistant Extension Professor of Horticulture & Plant Pathology, who will discuss common diseases and problems in fruits and vegetables. Our next speaker will be Jerry Fischer, owner of Orchids Limited in Plymouth. Jerry is known for his large collection of beautiful, quality species and for creating new hybrids. He will also have orchids for purchase. After lunch in the St. Olaf cafeteria, we’ll hear from Larry Cipolla, Hennepin County Master Gardener, who will discuss his adventures with hydroponic gardening for year-round vegetables. We will conclude with Chris Lampert of Knecht’s Nursery in Northfield, who is a landscape designer with fresh ideas that will inspire your landscape dreams!
Registration includes continental breakfast, buffet lunch, door prizes. There will be vendors on-site and a silent auction. Registration is due March 3rd. The event has been approved for four continuing education hours for Master Gardeners.
