Last night, the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office identified the husband and wife who died in a murder-suicide Friday afternoon at their home in Rosemount.  Authorities said 42 year old Justin Joseph Keilen shot his wife, 33 year old Alicia Ann Keilen multiple times before killing himself. A gun was found near the bodies.  Police were called to the home in the 3700 block of W. 154th Street about 3:45 p.m. after someone called to ask that police check on the couple.  The investigation continues.

Dick’s Sanitation makes $16k delivery

The City of Northfield received a check from DSI at their February 7th meeting.  Director of Sales and Marketing, Jeff Weist, presented the check for the recycling program in which they give the City a portion of the dollars they receive.  He presented a check for $16,081 and thanked the City for the partnership.  He also commented that they are a family owned company celebrating 50 years in business this year.  They also give a $500 scholarship to a Northfield High School senior who’s interest lie in environmental science.  In 2016 it was Kathryn Wilke.

Where should they sit? and rhetorical questions are in question

Nestled among items regarding the Northfield Council Rules of Business, was a discussion on seat assignments.  Mayor Pownell, “it’s not something that clearly is defined where everybody knows who decides and so I think that we’re really just trying to bring clarity to that and establish a process”.  Nobody’s fighting for seats right now but Administrator Martig added they’re working on a policy.  They had 4 options staff gave them to choose from.  There was no consensus.  One item that Councilor Colby, an attorney, took issue with was a Rule that no one could ask rhetorical questions.  He commented over the giggling, “Rhetorical questions are one of the best ways to argue that I’ve ever experienced.  Uh, I object to that particular part of the Rules of Decorum.  It’s the only objection I have.  I think it’s an unreasonable limitation on free speech”.  Martig clarified that was specifically during the time Staff is being questioned.  The week before, Mayor Pro Tem Jessica Peterson White chastised Councilor DeLong for asking rhetorical questions of City Engineer Dave Bennett.  They’ll be voting on their rules of business at the March 7th meeting.

Scriven to be honored at Council meeting
