Woman in fatal crash ID’d; County Sheriff warns thieves stealing irrigation span wire; Nfld citizens survey online – let the Council hear you; City selling Blvd trees; Arcadia holding college financing information night

A crash in Lonsdale Saturday morning takes the life of a 22 year old Lakeville woman.  Rice County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Union Lake Trail and Farwell Avenue at about 6:30.  Officers arrived to find Megan Harri had been ejected from the vehicle.  The crash remains under investigation.  

County Sheriff warns thieves stealing irrigation span wire

The Dakota County Sheriff’s office is reminding farmers and those living in rural areas that thefts of irrigation span

wire increase as the weather warms up.  Once thieves have the wire, they strip it and sell the aluminum or copper as scrap metal, then dump or burn the sheathing.  The thefts often happen at night. Sheriff Tim Leslie reports, there have already been 3 reports of theft this year.  There were a total of 3 last year, 6 in 2015 and 12 in 2014.  

Nfld citizens survey online – let the Council hear you!

Northfield, let your voice be heard.  A community survey is open now through May 4th.    As part of the City Council’s Strategic Planning process, they’ve set up an online survey for citizens to communicate your thoughts on a variety of city issues.  The Facilitator, Craig Rapp will use survey results in conjunction with the Council’s strategic planning sessions on May 9th and 10th.  Administrator Ben Martig says the plan will prioritize City goals and objectives for the next 3-5 years.  Individual ratings will be confidential. Only the summary will be provided to the City Council.  Questions range from taxes to street conditions, economic growth to housing issues, parks to your favorite news media and more!  There are also places to write more in-depth answers.  Go to the City’s website at ci.northfield.mn.us.  The survey link is on the front page.  We also have a link from kymn.net.  

City selling Blvd trees

Northfield residents have until Friday to order boulevard trees through the City.  Streets and Parks Supervisor TJ Heinricy said they have ten types of trees for sale.  Go to the maintenance office at 1710 Riverview Dr., across from the Police Station, to pay for your purchase, you’ll receive a stake to place where you want the tree or trees, you can buy up to 6.  The Parks department will do a visual inspection and call Gopher State One Call.  Then a group calling themselves “The Men of Northfield”, a group of men with their sons and daughters, get together for fellowship and planting!  They will plant your tree for you.  There’s no warranty for the trees, but the price is reasonable for the 6 to 8 foot trees.  Go to the City’s website for more information on types available.  It’s first come, first served.   

Kid going to college?  Arcadia holding information night on financing

It’s college night at Arcadia Charter school tomorrow.  Information will be provided free to the public to understand more about funding and financing college…    (sell the farm)That’s Barb Wornson, Arcadia Charter School Director.  The event starts at 6:30. The public is welcome.  Also, students will be performing their Spring play, which is actually a collection of 6 one-act plays entitled “All in the Timing”  Thursday through Saturday with shows beginning at 7:30pm.  Go to arcadiaschool.org.
