Nfld approves Street reclamation, sidewalks and all; McCarthy gets the nod from Dundas; Kenyon woman jailed after traffic stop; Distracted driving wave nets few

Northfield approved their 2017 Street Reclamation plan but not without some discussion.  In particular sidewalks added months after the project was laid out by city staff after other councilors asked it be included.  Councilor Zweifel commented that she was thankful for staff adding the sidewalks and for the additional time they allowed for public comment.  Councilor DeLong has been vocal about his opposition,

in particular, the sidewalk on Marvin Lane.  He said there’s no reason for those sidewalks.  He said they’re not in the Safe Routes to School plan and they, “connect from nothing to nothing”.  DeLong felt they were better served by acquiring an easement through the Cornerstone Community church parking lot across from the high school.  The vote was 6 to 1 in favor of ordering the Improvement and Preparation of Plans and Specs. There’s still time to explore a possible easement from the Church if they choose. Total cost of the project is just over $935,000 and includes 9 streets with sidewalks added to 4 of them.  The reclamation project presentation is posted on kymn.net.   A May 3rd neighborhood meeting is scheduled with bids expected June 15th.   2017 Street Reclamation presentation  For yet more information click HERE

McCarthy gets the nod from Dundas

Dundas City Administrator John McCarthy got his evaluation last night, they kept him.  He said he’s got a great council!  After getting through some tough times during the mid to late 2000’s, Dundas’s recent growth spurt continues as the new Aldi’s store, situated next to Firehouse Liquor, digs in and there’ve been new lot sales in the housing districts.  The final 9 townhomes in Bridgewater Heights were finished last year, four of which have sold this year.  And the old K-Mart site continues it’s transformation internally with the cinema work, an MGM liquor store and other retail outlets.  MGM’s anticipated opening is mid-summer, the movie theater in Fall.

Kenyon woman jailed after traffic stop

A Kenyon woman is in jail after Northfield police pull her over for a broken taillight. 30 year old Felicia Louise Nelson was pulled over around 10 Friday night.  When asked for her driver’s license, Nelson told the officer it was revoked due to unpaid fines.  She also had no insurance.  The officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle as well.  Nelson denied there were any drugs in the car.  The passenger produced a small bag of pot and officers found 3 open cans of alcohol, drug paraphernalia, a small amount of methamphetamine along with 2 Schedule 4 pills.  She’s charged with felony 5th degree possession along with 4 other charges.  Nelson has a lengthy history of traffic, drug and theft charges dating back to 2004.  Bail was set at $15,000 with conditions.  Her initial court appearance is May 2nd.  Nelsoncomplaint
