Nfld Sgt. Kevin Tussing awarded by MADD

Mothers Against Drunk Driving—Minnesota presented a Statewide Recognition Award to Sgt. Kevin Tussing, Northfield Police Department, for Outstanding Service in Greater Minnesota.  This award was presented at the MADD Minnesota 2017 Statewide Recognition awards ceremony and luncheon held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.  The goal of these awards is to highlight individuals who, in their work or daily lives, embrace MADD’s mission to end drunk driving,

help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking.

Sgt. Tussing has served as the Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) enforcement grant coordinator for two years and in that role has coordinated and scheduled the extra enforcement for the DWI campaign.  In 2016 he co-coordinated (with Faribault Police Dept.) the Thanksgiving Eve DWI kickoff media event for all Rice County law enforcement that included speakers and ride-along for the media.  Sgt. Tussing also helped to facilitate the purchase of 4 PBTs for Northfield Police Officers in order to have a PBT in each squad.  He requested grants funds from MADD, Rice County and Minnesotans for Safe Driving to purchase 4 PBTs and ensure that every Northfield Police squad car had a working PBT.  Sgt. Tussing has been innovative and dedicated to traffic safety specifically helping to keep impaired drivers off the roads in Rice County.  His public service announcements on KYMN Radio help remind drivers to obey the speed limits, pay attention to driving, buckle up, and never drive impaired.

Attending the awards ceremony with Sgt. Tussing were Deputy Chief Mark Dukatz, Northfield Police Department, Chief Andy Bohlen, Faribault Police Department,  Sheriff Troy Dunn, Rice County Sheriff’s Office and Scott McConkey, Southern Minnesota Law Enforcement Liaison.
