Brush pile fire sparks structure fire, no injuries

From Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst:

At 5:51 pm on June 2, 2017 the Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department, Rice County Sherriff’s Office and North Memorial Ambulance responded to a historic cabin on fire at 22215 Glynview Tr. just outside of Faribault.  Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the structure when crews arrived. The homeowners were at home at the time but do not occupy the structure and thankfully no one was hurt.

The majority of the roof burned off of the structure and heavy fire and smoke damaged is present throughout the building.  The fire was extinguished quickly but because of the age of the structure and the method in which the structure was built, extensive overhaul was done by firefighters to ensure the fire did not reignite.  Weather also posed a challenge for fire crews as high dew points and warm temperatures caused firefighting to be more strenuous.  Heavy rain, hail and lightning also confronted firefighters as they were breaking down and wrapping up at the scene.

The fire was caused by a nearby brush pile fire that spread to the roof of the structure.

Fire Chief Dustin Dienst commented, “This was not a large structure but we faced many challenges during the fire.  Firefighters did a great job of safely extinguishing this fire.”
