Late morning house fire results in substantial damage, no injuries

At 11:04 am on June 3, 2017 The Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department and North Memorial Ambulance responded to a house fire at 628 8th St. NW in Faribault.  Light smoke and small flames were coming from a 2nd story window when crews arrived. One adult female living on the main level evacuated the home but the occupants of the second level were unaccounted for.  Firefighters made a quick search for the occupants on the second level and then entered and extinguished the fire in the room of origin.   Thankfully no one was sleeping in the room of origin and because the door was closed to this room fire damage was limited to one room.  The entire home has light to moderate smoke damage.  Areas directly beneath the room of origin sustained water damage. Occupants of the home have other places to live while the home is cleaned up and made safe to live in again.

The Faribault Fire Department investigated the fire and determined that a bundle of cords and wires running along the baseboard in the bedroom caused the fire.

Fire Chief Dustin Dienst commented, “Thankfully no one was injured in this fire.  The time of the fire made a difference, and having the doors closed to rooms in the house compartmentalized the structure which limited the fire and smoke damage”.
