The Better Angels of our Nature by Steven Pinker

Everywhere you look it appears we live in an increasingly violent world: car bombs, random shootings in the US, bombings in Paris and Belgium. On today’s 15 with the Author, Teri Knight talks with renowned Harvard psychologist, Steven Pinker, about his novel, “THE BETTER ANGELS OF OUR NATURE – Why violence has declined”.  Pinker shows why the assumption that we are more violent as a people is wrong, and why we’re more humane today than at any time in our history.   Pinker talks about what factors have had the greatest effect on decreasing violence and how “honor” played a role in our history of violence.  He offers hope in a world that seems increasingly more violent and backs it up with facts.    stevenpinker.com

Just recently Bill Gates tweeted that if he could give each graduate a gift it would be “The Better Angels of our Nature” and said it was the best he’s ever read!
