Nfld man charged with child abuse

A Northfield man is charged with assaulting his 2 month old child.   32 year old Armando DeShawn Fox was formally booked yesterday.  The criminal complaint states that the mother  heard the baby crying around 4am on Monday, but it sounded odd and she heard a popping noise in the baby’s back.  She took the child to the hospital.  The little girl was found to have 9 broken ribs in different stages of healing.  She was taken to Children’s Hospital where the doctor found 22 fractures, some broken in half.  All from abuse. The doctor said that they may have to rebreak some ribs as they’re not healing right.

The risk of death is high in an infant with these injuries.  Fox admitted that he squeezed the baby and her twin to keep them quiet and may have burped them too hard.  He’s currently in Rice County jail charged with  2 counts of 1st degree assault and 2 counts of malicious punishment of a child.  All felonies.  The most serious charge carries up to 20 years.  Bail has been set at $150,000 with conditions.  His court appearance is Sept. 15th.  The children are in protective custody.
