Updated Press Release RE: Gunshot Wound/Shooting Incident September 8, 2017

Updated information related the Gunshot Wound/Shooting Incident previously reported on September 6, 2017:

Northfield and Farmington Police Investigators have concluded this investigation. It was determined the victim suffered an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred in Dakota County, not in the City of Northfield. The case is closed and will not likely result in criminal charges.

Previous Press Release Info: At about 12:15 a.m. on September 6, 2017, Northfield Officers responded to the Northfield Hospital regarding a victim with a gunshot wound. At about the same time, officers responded to the 400 block of Highway 3 South for a reported suspicious incident. Employees at a business there reported a male had been in the parking lot for several minutes, and when he left, there was fresh blood and a shell casing in the parking lot. The two reports related to the same person/vehicle.

At the hospital, Northfield and Farmington Police Officers interviewed an adult male victim of a gunshot wound. The victim was eventually released in stable condition. Officers towed a vehicle from the hospital as part of the investigation.

At the scene on Highway 3 South, officers collected information from employees and evidence from the scene.

Northfield Investigators also responded and assisted with the investigation.
