Offender Task Force at Kwik Trip in Northfield.  Thompson was known to have a federal warrant for his arrest from a prior felony drug conviction.

Thompson and Reiter had picked up drugs from drug cartel member in Minneapolis and were transporting them for distribution. After obtaining a warrant to search the vehicle the two officers found just over a pound of methamphetamine, worth approximately $45,000 on the street.

In addition the officers found 111 grams of marijuana, 1.72 grams of black tar heroin and several prescription pills for why they did not have a prescription.

Thompson and Reiter are being held in the Rice County Jail after complaints were filed by the Rice County Attorney Office and Judge Thomas Neuville set unconditional  bail in the amount of $1,000,000  and conditional bail in the amount of $500,000.

“These two are high level dealers, dealing with the cartel and bringing large amounts to distribute among a dealer network.” Said Rice County Attorney John Fossum.  “They are responsible for large amounts and the community will be safer with them off the streets. This was excellent work by our dedicated task force to catch them with more than a pound of methamphetamine.”

Both Thompson and Reiter have multiple prior drug convictions.  Under current sentencing guidelines they will likely be sentenced to 10-15 years in prison.
