The Talented Ribkins

On 15 with the Author today, Teri Knight’s guest is Ladee Hubbard with her debut novel, “THE TALENTED RIBKINS”.   Inspired by W.E.B. Du Bois’ famous essay, The Talented Tenth, this inventive novel tells the story of Johnny Ribkins, a 72-year old African-American antiques dealer from Florida who was born with a unique talent: he can make perfect maps of any space he walks through. Each member of the Ribkins family is gifted.  The novel starts with Johnny who has one week to pay back money he stole from a former employer (a mob boss) or else face dire consequences.  Ladee talks about the voices of the characters, how they spoke to her and shared their personalities.  The Talented Ribkins highlights family, forgiveness and using our talents in positive ways.
