Fundraising scam

NAFRS Fire Chief Gerry Franek said he’s received calls from community members that there’s a phone scam making the rounds.  Someone with a southern accent is calling and saying they’re collecting money for NAFRS Rescue Squad.  They’re asking for bank accounts, routing numbers, credit card numbers.  “It’s a scam, I don’t want anyone taken advantage of”.  Franek said they ARE raising funds for a Heavy Rescue Truck.   Click on the link for additional information.  Franek said, they’ll talk with people one on one, they will NOT make unsolicited phone call.  He also gave his personal phone number, 507-321-1440, if you have questions.  He said there’s a lot of good people that want to support them and he thanked everyone, adding that it’s a true community partnership and anyone scammed by these people is stealing from those individuals and the community.  Franek said the phone number comes up as a local number with a 507 area code.
