Tips from the Northfield Police Department: Deputy Chief Mark Dukatz will be in studio at 8:45am July 3rd.

– We want everyone to be safe and encourage parents to closely supervise any use of fireworks. – Legal fireworks can only be used on Private Property, not on city streets, parks, etc. – It is recommended to have a water source or other extinguisher closely available while using fireworks. – Be considerate of neighbors, animals, etc. when using fireworks. – Do not use fireworks near flammable or combustible materials. – Most violations of the fireworks laws are Misdemeanors. Adults and juveniles can be cited for violations. – If going to watch the public fireworks display, please do not block roads, streets, sidewalks, driveways, etc. This is one of our common complaints in the area of the fireworks display.

Also, – 4th of July weekend is also a time we encourage people to drive safely and not drink and drive. Traffic crashes, traffic citations, and traffic deaths are often high on the 4th of July weekend. Please obey traffic laws and plan for a sober driver.
