Dakota Co. says “wash with soap and clean water” if you have contact with the Cannon

A 3rd major event at Northfield’s Wastewater Treatment plant affects activities downstream in Lake Byllesby.  Dakota County officials closed the beach and warned campers and picnickers to have no direct contact with Lake Byllesby water following a million gallons of wastewater treatment sewage dumping into the Cannon River early Tuesday morning. Futhermore, while boating and fishing are permitted, anyone who has contact with water while launching boats or fishing should wash with soap and clean water.  Dakota County Parks has started sampling water at Lake Byllesby beach and is following state health recommendations on testing. When results from at least two consecutive days of sampling indicate the water has returned to safe levels for contact, Dakota County will re-open Lake Byllesby beach.  NOTE:  Public Works Director Dave Bennett said last night that they would have more information this afternoon.
