Update on Cannon River Spill

For Immediate Release

Wednesday, July 4, 2018

Northfield The City is reconfirming its advisory warning to the public to consider avoiding direct contact with the water on the Cannon River downstream of Northfield in Dakota County and Goodhue County through 6:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6 as a result of a discharge of wastewater from the Northfield Wastewater Treatment Plant on the early morning of Tuesday, July 2, 2018.

City water samples collected on Tuesday, July 3 have resulted in water quality tests that confirm elevated levels of bacteria that could make swimmers or other users with direct human contact with the Cannon River ill.

Swimming and other direct human contact with the Cannon River downstream of Northfield is not advised until bacteria has returned to normal levels. Additional sampling and testing is being conducted and we anticipate having another advisory issued tomorrow on Thursday, July 5.
