Widespread damage over Dundas, Northfield, surrounding area

Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson said that it appears, for now, that it could be a combination of straight line winds and/or a tornado that created widespread damage over Northfield, Dundas, Waterford Township and surrounding areas.  Reports of powerlines downed by downed trees all over the east side of Northfield and Dundas.  He says:

Plan on power being out for an extended period of time.

Don’t be out and about because of the downed power lines and weakened trees are still falling.

Check on your neighbors but don’t go far if you don’t have to.

Police are going door to door in some areas checking on people, don’t call unless you have an emergency.  A downed tree is not an emergency, a power line on your home is.

Barns and sheds are down, livestock is out.

City and County are working to assess damage – give them time.

Two young women, twin sisters, Rachel and Naomi Meisler (sp?), were in their car when the tree went down.  They had been looking for a place to pull over.  The windshield imploded but they were able to get out the back window.  They came out and saw a rainbow!  They were shaken but okay.  the car, not so much.
