Two serious crashes on Hwy 19 in 2 days – UPDATE

An 81 year old Hampton woman died this morning in a crash on Hwy 19 and Kellogg Avenue.  This morning (Saturday) around 10:30 State Patrol, Rice and Dakota Co. Sheriff’s deputies, Northfield police, fire and North Aircare responded to the accident. The State Patrol reports that a Dodge Caravan was westbound on Highway 19, stopped to turn left (southbound) on Kellogg Avenue in Sciota Township, when it was struck from behind by a Buick Century. The driver of the Buick, Donna Mae Otto, died at the scene. Both occupants of the Dodge were transported by ground ambulance to Northfield Hospital with believed non-life-threatening injuries.

Two serious crashes on Hwy 19 in 2 days.  Yesterday (Friday) morning around 11:30, State Patrol, Rice County Deputies and Lonsdale Fire and Rescue were called to Hwy 19 in Webster Township on a crash involving a semi.  A Chevy Impala stopped on the right shoulder of westbound Highway 19, started moving westbound in the right shoulder/turn lane and attempted to turn left across Highway 19. The Freightliner semi truck westbound on Highway 19 struck the Impala on the drivers side front and rear doors.  48 year old Tanya Sue Pudil of Elko New Market, was flown to North Memorial with life-threatening injuries. The semi driver, 60 year old Bradford Wayne Benson of Hector, suffered no injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
