Northfield Community Television (NCTV) moves to City Hall

The City of Northfield is moving programming and operations of Northfield Community Television (NCTV) to City Hall after NTV’s lone employee retires. NTV’s Paul Hager retired from public television. He will no longer be creating and programming Charter Spectrum Cable Channels 180 and 187 for the City of Northfield after 34 years of service. Channel 180 is designated as the government channel and channel 187 is designated as the public access channel.

“We are grateful to Paul for his dedication to public television in Northfield. Paul’s rich documentary collection of community happenings can be found on his website ntv.org.  We know there have been major changes in video, cable and television throughout the years and appreciate everything he’s done for the community,” said Communication and Human Resources Director Michelle Mahowald.

City Council meetings, School Board meetings, and church services will continue on NCTV at times the community has grown to expect. The City is meeting with partners and establishing relationships with new organizations to provide quality programming of local interest related to government, education, and community topics.

“Additionally, we’re excited about producing content the community is interested in and using this transition to refresh our public access programming,” said Mahowald. “We know more households are cutting the cord, but it’s still a way for many households to get local information. City-produced content will also be available on our YouTube channel and website.”

The City is recruiting a part-time NCTV Coordinator to assist the Communications department with programming and content. Job description and online job application are available on the City website:
