Swede Hollow by Ola Larsmo

Teri Knight talks with Ola Larsmo, a celebrated Swedish author whose award-winning family saga, “Swede Hollow”, was a best seller in Sweden in 2016 and has now been published for the first time in English by the University of Minnesota Press.  “Swede Hollow” was a real place, in a ravine in St. Paul, Mn where immigrants with little money found themselves. The book centers around the Klar family, their journey from Sweden to New York to, finally… St. Paul, MN and Swede Hollow. Extensively researched, the story of HOW Ola came to learn of the real Swede Hollow is interesting by itself. There are hardships, indignities, accidents, and harrowing encounters, but also acts of loyalty and kindness and moments of joy.
