On a cold November afternoon in 1951, three young boys went out to play in Farview Park in north Minneapolis. The Klein brothers—Kenneth Jr., 8; David, 6; and Danny, 4—never came home. When two caps turned up on the ice of the Mississippi River, investigators concluded that the boys had drowned and closed the case. Teri Knight’s guest today on 15 with the Author, is Jack El-Hai, author of “The Lost Brothers – a Family’s decades-long search”. Jack shares how his interest in this story started in 1997 and talks about the boys’ parents who were unconvinced that their boys, all three, could drown and NO bodies show up. He talks about the “disease of certainty” in law enforcement and how, in 2016, two cold case detectives went before the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and were able to present enough evidence to get the case reopened. But what agency will take the case after nearly 70 years? What of the oldest son? And the three sons born after? There’s also a podcast called The Long Lost.
