We have a very special guest, someone who’s name is quite familiar with Northfield. Mara Hvistendahl comes back to KYMN with her new thriller, “The Scientist and the Spy: A True Story of China, the FBI, and Industrial Espionage”. But this book, though it sounds like fiction is far from it. Mara takes us on a wild ride replete with bugged phones, car chases, airport arrests, and a useful stooge. She recounts a harebrained conspiracy to steal trade secrets from agricultural giants Monsanto and DuPont Pioneer from our own backyard… Iowa. The “secrets” in the corn seeds are highly desired. Hvistendahl spent eight years living in China and reporting in Scientific journals.
