Officers worked to determine murder suspect was not inside the Flying J; Nfld EDA notes growth; Check reliable sources when looking for information on COVID 19; Spring Forward

By Teri Knight, News Director

For nearly five hours on Wednesday evening, local law enforcement agencies assisted Rice County Sheriff’s Deputies in the arrest of a homicide suspect. A deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle at the Flying J Truck Stop, called in the plate number and it came back associated to

Doocy

sixty year old Mark Doocy of Blooming Prairie, a man wanted on suspicion of murder at a truck stop in Las Vegas. They had to shut down the busy truck stop for public safety. Sheriff Dunn said yesterday morning on KYMN, “when they (deputies) first got there, they didn’t know if he was actually in the car or if he was in the truck stop itself. So they had to do a lot of investigating and checking and making sure he didn’t have somebody with him and so

talking to people inside the truck stop. And then to shut something like that down, it takes more than just one officer to do that and there was not a lot of happy people that were stopping to get gas or use the bathroom. They’d say I just need to get some gas and you can’t let them in”When chemical aerosol and other non-lethal tactics did not get Doocy to come out, law enforcement decided, just before midnight, to go in and get him. Doocy was taken to HCMC and is in the custody of Rice County. He’ll go through the court process here to be extradited to Nevada. Nfld EDA notes growth

Carlson

Northfield EDA Coordinator, Nate Carlson, gave a recap of the EDA’s activities in 2019. They approved an application for state incentives to assist the expansion of All Flex Flexible Circuits. The company plans to expand by 14,500 sq. ft  for a total of 40,000 sq. ft. for additional equipment and 35 to 40 new jobs. Several incentives were offered for the $14 million, 79 unit, 5th St. Lofts downtown development project. Carlson noted there were four new Commercial projects valuing $625k and 48 Commercial additions or alterations valuing nearly $14 million. Additionally, there were 63 Residential changes valuing nearly $1.4M. At their meeting last month, the EDA approved a $5,000 microgrant to Cannon Strength LLC. Owners, Katelyn Sticha and Donovan Belcourt opened their gym in 2018 and have been searching out a larger location. Their plan is to move into 2018 Jefferson Road, near James Gang Coffeehouse. The 3400 sq. ft space has been vacant for six years. Their focus is on SPT, Sports Performance Training for youth, but not limited to that. Expansion is expected to cost $20,000.

Check reliable sources when looking for information on COVID 19

As COVID 19 is all over social media, be sure you check with reliable sources on your information. KYMN has posted information from the City of Northfield, the Northfield Police Department and also Northfield Hospital and Clinics. The people most at risk are the elderly, people with upper respiratory issues and compromised immune systems. Sheriff Dunn said they’re trying to handle it like a significant flu outbreak, if his deputies are dealing with medicals or those with signs of the flu, saying, “we’re putting masks on them so we we’re not being contaminated ourselves. Our officers and deputies have the masks as well”His department is getting a couple of updates each day from their Emergency Mgmt team as well as State Public Health officials. One concern of his is if there’s contamination at the County jail. He said, “If you do have somebody, and you have to quarantine them, you have to quarantine a lot of other people that have been in that same area and that could be staff as well”They are planning for situations. At this moment, there are NO reports of COVID 19 in Minnesota.  CDC  We have further information just released this morning from Rice County : Be prepared Coronavirus
