Over the weekend, the second case of COVID-19 coronavirus was found in Minnesota. The person is in isolation and recovering at home in Carver County. District 20 Senator Rich Draheim commented this morning on KYMN that the Department of Health explained what they need, “we’re going to fund $20.9 million for them to get ready if it would become more of an issue here”. About ten million of those dollars will go to labor. MDH wants to shift one hundred employees that are paid by the Federal government to State paid positions and the rest to equipment such as ventilators for medical personnel. Draheim added, “Now, one piece that’s missing is the funding for local hospitals like Northfield’s Hospital there”. Once they see where federal
funding goes, they’ll see how to disperse those dollars. His legislative office is next to Sen. Scott Jenson, a physician, who said more cases are being reported because more people are being tested. For scientific information with preventive measures you can take, check the CDC website.

Nfld council will vote on acknowledging Native peoples and TIF item
Northfield City Council meets tomorrow night for the first time in a few weeks. There are only two items on the regular agenda, one is a Resolution to acknowledge that Northfield was established after native Dakota peoples were removed and honoring those people. The second item involves the TIF agreement for the 5th Street Lofts redevelopment project. The developer has requested that the TIF Note be assigned as collateral to their construction financing lender to secure the necessary financing to construct the building. According to city staff, this request is typical as developers utilize the TIF Note to leverage favorable financing terms. You can find information on both of these items by clicking on the links above. Citizens can comment online on the City’s website through noon tomorrow.
