Main Street Project – a non-profit – is seeking an Executive Director

Main Street Project is committed to advancing a resilient agriculture system, and is looking for a new Executive Director who can help lead and manage an equity-focused nonprofit and its innovative research, training and demonstration LLC farm.

Main Street Project’s current Executive Director, Julie Ristau, will remain on the board but will be focusing her efforts on the operations of the farm and serving as an ambassador for the organization. The incoming Executive Director will take over the responsibility of leading the daily staff. To best meet the needs of the organization, Main Street Project is seeking an individual who is currently located in Northfield, or who is willing to relocate to the area.

“We have a need for a highly-motivated bright individual to provide valuable leadership in our community, and to innovate a path toward a more just, resilient and healthy food system to build local wealth and food security,” said Ristau. “We are fortunate to be surrounded by a community with so many individuals who are passionate about restoring our lands while also addressing racial equity. We are reaching out to our community to help find our next leader.”

Main Street Project’s Executive Director will:

<   Lead the strategic direction of the organization in coordination with the Main Street Project board and staff.

<   Oversee the organization’s hiring, supervision, development, and retention of staff

<   Oversee internal systems around communications/social media, human resources, fundraising and financial operations, administration and reporting.

<   Lead fundraising work, ensuring that the organization raises the financial support needed to carry out its programming.

<   Develop new relationships with funders and major donors and support and oversee the work of the staff who are currently maintaining such relationships.

<   Support partnership and ally development.

<   Serve as a public face for the organization in the community and beyond.

This individual would get a chance to serve the Northfield community, some of whom need food now more than ever due to job loss and economic instability from COVID-19. In recent weeks, Main Street Projects has been delivering frozen chicken — which were raised in a healthy environment — to local families.

Since 2016, Main Street Project has been testing innovative production processes and developing new markets for perennial crops and free-range poultry on a 100-acre farm. The model engages surrounding communities, including immigrants and young farmers, farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture and people with limited incomes to rebuild wealth in rural communities.

Interested applicants can send their resume, cover letter and three professional references to hiring@mainstreetproject.org. Applications will be accepted until May 1.
