Suspicious devices/makeshift lab found in Northfield

On April 24, 2020 at 11:50 am the Northfield Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen reporting that he found a pipe bomb in John North Park. Officers responded and found a suspicious device that resembled a pipe bomb. Officers determined who the suspect was and made contact with him at his apartment in the 1000 block of Ensley Avenue.

Officers made contact with the suspect, a 15 year old male and a parent. Upon further investigation suspicious devices and an apparent makeshift lab was discovered in the residence. The building was evacuated and the St. Paul Police Department Bomb Squad responded to assess the scene and make it safe. A search warrant was executed at the residence and evidence removed.

The 15 year old was placed in protective custody while further investigation into the incident is conducted. There is no indication that there is a current public threat. No additional information is available at this time.

The Northfield Police Department is very appreciative of the citizen in reporting suspicious activity immediately.
