Dundas City Council amended the PUD for Menards to install a third gate for those with online orders. They plan to put a canopy over the gate. Administrator Teppen said the Council also amended their zoning code to include daycare centers as a conditional use in the limited industrial district. She said, “we have an applicant who is purchasing or considering purchasing a former house at 208 County Road 1, across from post office,
and turning that building into a daycare center”. Council heard a Resolution to a 20 acre parcel at 116 Depot St., that’s zoned R1, to split off a 2 acre portion for the homestead and the rest of it into future development. They laid out a ghost plat, “it’s very rough, we didn’t approve any future 50 house subdivision. It’s just, should that come along, here’s how it might fit on that piece of property”. Teppen’s full interview is HERE.

Virtual celebrations for graduates, awards, banquets
Plans are being made for Northfield High School’s May 31st virtual Commencement. Neuger Communications will assist in producing the ceremony and KYMN Radio will, as always, broadcast it. Superintendent Dr. Matt Hillmann said the District will also hold, “Senior academic awards and scholarship distribution”. That will be held on May 26th at 6:30pm. They’ll be presenting over $60,000 in scholarships sponsored by Community members and Business entities. The Maroon and Gold banquet will also be held virtually with a presentation on May 27th which will include, “outstanding male and female athletes for individual and team sports, highlights of the year and a virtual parade of champions”. Jostens, who provides NHS yearbooks, will offer a digital signing platform wherein students can sign their books interactively and then print them out. There will be a virtual Lock-in as well with lots of prizes. More details will be coming on that. For the first time, and hopefully only time, the District is allowing and encouraging students to decorate their graduation caps and they’ll have a panel of judges for the most creative with prizes of Chamber Bucks being awarded. The Area Learning Center, with far fewer graduates, will produce their own and will stream on June 5th at 6pm.

Cannon up 4 ft. in Nfld
Sump pumps were running overtime as Northfield received 4.4 inches of rain from Saturday to Sunday. The Cannon River, measured at the 2nd St. bridge, rose about 4 ft. putting it at 895 ft. above sea level at 10 o’clock this morning. That means it’s lapping over the boat landing at the bridge and a few grassy areas but nothing that will cause damage.
