CRDVOTF arrests one in connection with fatal overdose – seeks 2nd suspect

FARIBAULT – Since January 2019, agents from the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force have conducted an ongoing investigation into the fatal heroin overdose of an individual which occurred in the city of Faribault. Through the investigation, agents were able to determine who provided and distributed the heroin involved this fatal overdose. Agents were assisted by Faribault Police Department detectives.

The case was submitted to the Rice County Attorney’s Office for review. On June 3, 2020 the Rice County Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for Jerann Gainous, age 39 and Scott Tuomala, age 25 for their involvement in this case. These arrest warrants were for charges of 3rd degree murder and 3rd degree sale of a narcotic. On June 3, 2020, Jerann Gainous was arrested and taken into custody. On the same day, while attempting to apprehend Scott Tuomala, he fled law enforcement and his current whereabouts are unknown.

“The Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force is committed to investigate all overdose deaths and to determine who provided these drugs. Our focus is to stop these drugs from entering our communities and hold those who sell and distribute these deadly drugs accountable,” stated Team Leader Josh Malecha.

If anyone has knowledge of Scott Tuomala’s whereabouts please notify law enforcement at 507-334-4305.
