Faribault man dies in crash; 4th of July water rescue victim is in Stable condition; Nfld Council votes on requiring masks; RAUW awards $240k in grants; Dukes can sell beer at the ballfield

At 9:30 last night,  the Rice County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an injury crash in on 195th Street W. just west of Faribault in Wells Township. Deputies found a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta rolled over in the south ditch of 195th, west of Roberds Lake Blvd. There had been two occupants in the vehicle. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, 20 year old Joshua Curtis Holter of Faribault was ejected. Medical intervention was attempted by law enforcement. Faribault Rescue and North Ambulance arrived on scene and took over medical care. Holter died at the scene about a half hour later. The passenger 21 year old, Nolan Martin Warwick  was transported and later released from District One Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He had been wearing his seatbelt. 4th of July water rescue victim is in Stable condition

Sheriff Dunn updated KYMN on the Water Rescue this weekend. On Saturday, Deputies were called to Cannon Lake at Shager Beach on a report of a possible drowning. 46 year old Edelgard Mejia of Owatonna was swimming at the beach when he started showing signs of distress and disappeared under water. Mejia’s family members and bystanders quickly located him in approximately five feet of water and pulled him to shore and started CPR. First responders arrived and provided care. Mejia was unresponsive. He was transported by Air Ambulance to North Memorial Medical Center where Dunn reports today that he is in stable condition and conscious. He added that there will likely be some life-saving awards coming out of this one. 

Nfld Council votes on requiring masks

The Northfield City Council will consider requiring face masks indoors of City buildings as well as a resolution to support a statewide requirement for face masks or coverings in indoor spaces where physical distancing of more than six feet cannot be maintained. Also on the agenda is consideration of Mayor and Council compensation. The proposal is to raise the councilmembers yearly pay to $8776, an increase of $172 and for the Mayoral position, a raise of $229 to $11,702. RAUW awards $240k in grants

Rice County Area United Way has awarded $240,000 in grants to 27 nonprofit and school-sponsored programs. These are the first grant awards since the United Way of Faribault and Northfield Area United Way merged last year to become Rice County Area United Way. Dukes can sell beer

 The Dundas Council held a special meeting last night. Administrator Teppen said they voted to approve a 3.2 liquor license for the Dundas Dukes at their ballfield.
