A Webster man has been arrested in connection with a burglary wherein items that were stolen were recognized on Facebook Marketplace by the owner. Rice County Deputies talked with the victim who had chainsaws, a floor jack and other tools stolen from his grandmother’s property. He had been observing the marketplace and found the name associated with his items. 26 year old Bailey Robert Meyer was identified. Deputies then spoke to Cody Eggum, just arrested for theft of a motor vehicle which was found on the same property Meyer lives on Bagley Avenue. A search of the property located the items from this complaint and a glass door stolen from a construction site. Meyer is

charged with receiving stolen property and 5th degree drug possession. His initial court appearance is September 2nd.

Nfld District to offer dedicated online learning for those who do not want their child in class

As mentioned this week, the Northfield School District will offer an online version of classes for Fall for any of those parents of students who do not want to send their children to school regardless of Governor Walz’s announcement this afternoon. Superintendent Dr. Matt Hillmann said these online courses will be facilitated by Northfield teachers who will specialize in this arena. He explained, “at the secondary level they’ll be using a special curriculum called OdysseyWare as a start that is going to be modified to meet our local needs. Our plan is to have a learning coach. So one of our licensed teachers who will be working with each student who is on a self-paced curriculum but we have an individual teacher who will be coaching them through the whole experience”For Elementary students it will be more like what they did at the end of this school year. He believes this will be a good option for those with concerns. The plans are not finalized but will be sometime next week. He added they will tweak them as necessary up to the beginning of the school year. KYMN will broadcast the Governor’s announcement beginning at 2pm. District to take possession of new Greenvale building

Construction of the new Greenvale Elementary School is nearly complete. Superintendent Hillmann publicly thanked Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Jim Kulseth for his work, “Jim has been our District Lead on the construction process across all 5 projects”He also gave a shout out to Knutson Construction, “because they have so much work that they do at the Mayo Clinic, when Covid-19 hit they implemented their health and safety protocols that they use at Mayo”. They are scheduled to take ownership of the new building next week. The goal was to create a modern learning space, “that balanced both being classy and practical and I think when people look at it they’re going to say, wow this is a wonderful building but it’s very practical and focused on student learning”. There’s a lot of natural light as well as flexibility for the spaces. For more information on the construction, go to the District’s website HEREThe new addition at Sibley is complete with a new cafeteria that actually has windows! They created a new media center, expanded the nurses station, a new science classroom and a new Flex Lab where students will be able to do hands-on work when the pandemic is under control. As safety permits, the District will offer tours through the new spaces.
