Eagan man pleads guilty of injuring couple after driving into Starbucks; Pownell discusses her years on Council, finances, strategic plan and more; Nfld Clerk all set for Primary amid pandemic; Nfld launches free video streaming

An Eagan man who drove into a Starbucks pled guilty Wednesday to two counts of Criminal Vehicular Operation. August 19th of last year, 45 year old Ihar Daniliuk seriously injured two people when he drove into the building. Officers responded to find Daniliuk smelling of alcohol. At the time, he blew a .18, just over twice the legal limit. A man and woman were hit. They suffered multiple injuries. Sentencing is scheduled for November 9th in Dakota County.

The Primary is next Tuesday. The three candidates for Northfield Mayor will be whittled down to two for the November general election. KYMN’s Jeff Johnson interviewed Jon Denison, David Ludescher and incumbent Rhonda Pownell. She grew up in Sioux Falls, SD, went to college at St. Olaf graduating with a degree in Social Work. Met her future husband here and they have four children. She bristles at being called a politician, saying, “yes it’s politics but I’m here really to serve the community, serve the people that elected me to office. And it’s been a great journey, I’ve been on the council for 12 years”. The last nearly four as Mayor. She discussed the City’s Strategic Plan, the City’s finances and levies which have been raised consistently over the last 3 years. She said as Mayor, “you have one vote out of 7 and it’s an equal vote so you don’t get to determine what the taxes will be unilaterally. You really have to work in collaboration with, not only with your council colleagues, but also with city staff”Just last year she voted for a 9.4% levy in a 4 to 2 vote.  Nfld Clerk all set for Primary amid pandemic

City Clerk Deb Little says Election judges will be provided with personal protective equipment and cleaning products.There will be plexiglass screens at the pollpad and ballot judge locations. Poll workers and voters are asked to stay home if they are sick. There are 2 polling location changes.   If you voted at First UCC, you will be voting at St. John’s Church for this election. If you previously voted at the Northfield Retirement Community, you will be voting at Bethel Lutheran Church. All of this information is HERE. Nfld launches free video streaming

The City of Northfield is launching a free video streaming website for its public access television stations. Northfield Public Broadcasting (NPB) manages community channels 180 and 187 through Charter Spectrum. The website allows anyone to stream the cable broadcast live online regardless of individual television subscription. Programming includes local historical biographies, library programs, gardening shows, city council meetings, school board meetings, church services and a variety of informational videos.
