By Teri Knight, News Director

Around 2am Saturday morning Faribault police were called on report of 5 or more shots being fired in the 1600 block of Division St. W. in Faribault. On arrival they found a vehicle with 13 bullet holes and shell casings on the ground. 28 year old Cody Ryan Detlie was placed under arrest. He told Officers that he and his brother were discussing things that go on at work that make them mad and they began to argue. The pair separated and then Detlie said he saw his brother pop a tire on his truck. That’s when he went to his safe, got a Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun, loaded a full magazine and emptied it into his brother’s car. At the scene Detlie’s blood alcohol content registered .16, twice the legal limit. The area where the shooting happened is residential and commercial. According to the criminal complaint, any of the bullets could have ricocheted. Detlie is charged with dangerous discharge of a firearm within a municipality and 1st degree property

damage that risked physical harm. They’re both felonies with the last one carrying up to 5 years in prison. His initial court appearance is October 14th.

Barriers, $ for legal services and 2021 road projects on Nfld Council agenda

The Northfield City Council meets tonight at 6 o’clock. There are a number of items on their agenda. First is a budget amendment request from Staff for additional legal services. They are seeking $100,000 to be placed in a fund in relation to Bridgewater Township’s possible Incorporation bid. They would move $50,000 each from the Water Fund and the Wastewater Fund to use if necessary. This needs a super majority vote to pass. Council will be voting on the reclamation and overlay projects slated for 2021 that include the Mayflower Hill Area, the TH 3 Frontage Road Area and the East Cannon River Trail connection off Honey Locust. Estimated total cost is at $4 million. Council will also be considering a Resolution Approving CARES Act Funding for Business and Non-Profit Assistance. Then there’s the barrier placements on the 4th St. Bridge and the closing of Water St. into November. You can comment on all these items online on the City’s website until 4 o’clock this afternoon. You can also contact Mayor Pownell, your Councilors and the City staff.  This LINK will take you to the page you can eComment on and you’ll also be able to view their agenda with additional information. Motivation sparks creative solution to continue Music and Art at LBSA despite covid

The pandemic has created many ripple effects including clients at Laura Baker Services Association. Two people trying to keep some sort of normalcy are Jenny Solar, Music Therapist and Bridgette Novak, Arts Specialist. With health and safety in mind, they were challenged to figure out ways to help clients still create! Solar said, “but we were just so motivated to find a way to continue art and music for clients and we knew that these mediums could be very helpful for them and just provide some familiarity and routine and joy despite such a big disruption to their routine”Solar set up live sessions and also pre-recording music sessions to make it easier to practice any time. Novak’s art is more hands on, she said, “for me to not be physically present was a challenge because then I knew I was asking that physical presence of someone else. So I tried to send project ideas that would be fun for staff too and not too complicated but definitely enriching still”She added that communicating ways to adapt the projects to each individual has also been a challenge and setting up the technology for staff to implement projects also took time for each of them. One plus is that they’ve learned how to navigate the challenges  and can be ready to apply these methods in other circumstances such as inclimate weather. Their full interview is on kymnradio.net.
