An ATV crash in Morristown injures two. At about 6:40 Sunday evening, Rice County Deputies were dispatched to an ATV crash in the area of Bloomer St. W and 2nd St. NW. Deputies determined the ATV was traveling eastbound on Bloomer Street when the driver lost control, went off the roadway, and rolled the ATV.  The driver, 51 year old Jonathan J. Wunderlich of Faribault, was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester via Air-Care.  Family transported a 4-year-old male passenger with minor injuries to a nearby hospital. According to the release, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the Rice County Sheriff’s Office. North Ambulance and Morristown Fire & Rescue assisted deputies on scene.

Nfld Council work session tonight on tax levy options

The Northfield Council meets tonight. They’ll hold a work session on the City’s budget. Finance Director Brenda Angelstad and City Administrator Ben Martig will present an update to the 2021-2022 budget, including three tax levy scenarios. Those include a 3.7% tax hike, 5.7% , which they’re defining as a baseline and 7.7%. There are a number of items they’ll discuss, you can view all the items in more detail on the City’s website under City Council. As a work session, there is no public input. They will set the Preliminary Levy at their next meeting on Sept. 15th. That number can be lowered but not raised. As always you can comment to your representative. They will also have their eComment open as soon as next week’s agenda comes out, typically on a Thursday.

Craig wants trade school options for students

Craig 9-4-20

2nd District Congresswoman Angie Craig was in Northfield last Friday talking with local small businesses including KYMN. She stopped by our studios and talked with Jeff Johnson who asked whether there would be another round of help, like PPP, for small businesses, she said, “I think the virus is going to determine that. I mean if we don’t have a vaccine, if small businesses continue to be impacted I think we’re going to have to do something for small businesses in this country”She added that there’s a disconnect between big business, who’s actually done pretty well during this, which is reflected in the stock market, but small business is the economy of the 2nd District. While on the air, Craig discussed the need to prioritize vocational training, saying, “before the pandemic, one of my top three priorities was really around career and technical education, trade schools. It’s making sure that we are giving kids that option back in high school. That we’re not feeding every kid this line that you have to have a 4 year degree”Her oldest son is a Machinist II. She said it’s important that kids know there are more options.
