Fire broke out at the Archer house this afternoon bringing the full complement of Northfield fire and rescue vehicles to the North side of Downtown and closing Division Street between 2nd and 4th Streets.
At approximately 5:30, additional assistance was requested from the Farmington Fire and Rescue Department.
According to an Archer House Employee, the fire began at the Smoqe House restaurant around 4pm. Initially that fire was thought to have been contained, however it apparently spread to the second-floor guest rooms above the restaurant and may have possibly moved to the third floor as well.
Smoke could be seen billowing out of open windows in the second and third floor.
Aside from the obvious damage done by the smoke, and possibly flames, another concern is the water damage caused by the sprinkler system that was activated by the fire throughout the building.
According to Archer House General Manager Todd Byhre, a Smoqe House employee suffered burns to his hands, but nobody else has been injured.
Byhre also said that no guests had arrived for the night.
