Train car explodes in Cannon Falls

A train car exploded this morning at the Progressive Rail facility in Cannon Falls. Though the explosion caused significant damage to the property, Cannon Falls police are reporting no injuries from the accident. 

CFPD said the explosion occurred at 7:03 this morning. The Cannon Falls Police Department, Cannon Falls Fire Department and Cannon Falls Ambulance responded to the call aided by the Goodhue Sheriff’s office and the Minnesota State Patrol. 

Authorities said the car was filled with molasses, which affected the surrounding area, however there were no hazardous materials involved in the explosion. 

Authorities are undertaking an investigation into the cause.
