Burning Ban issued in Rice County

The Rice County Sheriff’s office has suspended all burning permits issued in Rice County, effective at 5am this morning, Sunday, April 4, until further notice.

With low relative humidity and dry vegetation on the ground, the Sheriff’s office said that Southern Minnesota fire agencies have responded to several grass fire calls this weekend, many of which were difficult to keep under control.

Recreational campfires and grilling are allowed.  Per state statute, campfires cannot be more than three feet in diameter by three feet high.

“If you were thinking of having a campfire or grilling,” said Sheriff Troy Dunn, “use extreme caution and good judgment before starting one, as they can quickly get out of hand if not properly monitored.”
