Boards and commissions members needed

It is the first of the year, and for the city of Northfield, that means there are some seats available on several boards and commissions that help guide the future of the city. Northfield has, all-in-all, 15 boards and commissions, an unusually high number for a city our size. They range from Economic Development and Planning, to Human Rights, Hospital and library, Arts, and many more. A full list can be found on the cities website.

Meetings are typically held monthly or quarterly, and, according to Mayor Rhonda Pownell, the time commitment can vary:

Applications can be filed on-line and you can file anytime throughout the year.

Three Rivers Community Action Childcare Initiative

Three Rivers Community Action has announced a new family childcare owner initiative at the Northfield Community Resource Center (NCRC).

To meet the growing demand for quality childcare in Northfield, applications are now being accepted to provide classroom space and business support to individuals who are looking to start a new career or relocate their current family childcare business.

The selected applicant will provide childcare for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Bilingual individualsof color and those who will provide childcare during non-traditional hours will be prioritized in the selection process.

According to a statement issued by Three Rivers Community Action and the Healthy Community
Initiative, benefits to the selected applicant will include quality classroom space at an affordable rent, a starter kit of classroom environment materials and supplies, and premier business consulting services.

Three Rivers has partnered in this endeavor with the Healthy Community Initiative, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, and Families First of Minnesota.

“We are honored to play a role in supporting southern Minnesota communities as they develop childcare solutions,” said Rae Jean Hansen, vice president of early childhood at the SMIF. “This innovative approach to supporting childcare business owners in Northfield will be a major asset for families in the community.”

Applications received on or before February 28, will be given priority.
