Major crash closes I-35

Interstate 35 is closed between Exit 69 at Highway 19 and Exit 76 at Deuce Road, as a winter storm continues to make driving conditions treacherous. 

According to KARE 11 News, around 11:00 this morning, a serious multi-vehicle crash involving three semi-trucks and two passenger cars shut down I-35W near Elko New Market The state patrol is reporting minor injuries involved in the crash. 

Detours are in effect. Early estimates are that the northbound closure will last until approximately 2:00 this afternoon. 

In other news, a Twin Cities truck driver is dead after colliding with another semi near the Iowa border Monday night in snowy and icy conditions.  

The Minnesota State Patrol said 62-year-old Bradley Dean Oachs of Rosemount was southbound on I-35 in Freeborn County when he collided with the trailer of a semi that had jackknifed in front of him. Oachs was rushed to a hospital in Albert Lea where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. 

Across the state, troopers reported 79 crashes, ten with injuries, and responded to another 36 vehicles either spun out or off the road between 5:00 and 10:00 this morning.
