Paul Niemisto is Associate Professor Emeritus of Music at St. Olaf College. He taught for over 35 years at the college. In 1979, he founded the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra (CVRO) as a program of the Northfield Arts Guild. Since 1991 he has directed a Finnish-American brass ensemble American Poijat, “Boys of America,” which has traveled widely and made recordings in the U.S. and Scandinavia. In summer 2006, he was coordinator for the first Vintage Band Festival in Northfield and now serves as the Artistic Director of the Vintage Band Festival. He has been described as Northfield’s Music Man. In 2013, Paul Niemisto was honored by the Northfield Arts and Cultural Commission with its Northfield Living Treasure Award.
