Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play. An inestimably kind, rich and beautiful play, truly remarkable and exceptionally moving.
Erik and Deirdre Blake have arrived for Thanksgiving dinner at the run-down Chinatown apartment of their daughter, Brigid, and her boyfriend, Richard. Rounding out the family dinner is Erik’s mother (affectionately referred to as “Momo”) who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and his other daughter, Aimee, who has recently been the victim of a nasty breakup. The parents are disappointed that their daughters have left their Scranton home to struggle in the city, and worried that they are abandoning their values. The Humans tells the story of the quintessential family reunion: a group of people who love each other, but still wrestle with basic human fears. Filled with devotion, humor, tenderness, and gathering fear, the world creaks curiously, and seemingly deconstructs around them. This incredible play takes place in 95 uninterrupted minutes.
