Local weather affecting traffic and school schedules

The Northfield area has received more than five inches of snow today, and the weather is affecting everything from traffic to afternoon and evening schedules.

Plows have been out in force both in Northfield and across Southern Minnesota. Conditions on Highway 52 have been reported as partially covered in Rice and Goodhue Counties and completely covered in Dakota County. Interstate 35 is completely covered with snow and accidents have been reported all across the area.

The Northfield School District has cancelled all after school programs for the day, as well as the varsity and junior varsity hockey and basketball games. Varsity athletic practices will still be held for those teams that choose to practice; however, those practices have been made optional.

The All-District Jazz Band Concert originally scheduled for tonight has been re-scheduled for December 5th.
