President David Anderson this summer.

She will be the first female president in the 149-year history of St. Olaf College.

Dr. Rundell Singer is currently the provost at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where she is also a professor in the Biology Department. Prior to that, she was the director of the Division of Undergraduate Education at the National Science Foundation from 2013-2016, where she led efforts to advance undergraduate STEM education across 14 federal agencies, overseeing a $350 million annual budget and an investment portfolio of $1.2 billion.

Before her time at the NSF, Rundell Singer was a professor of Biology at Carleton College for 30 years and directed the school’s Pearlman Center for Learning and Teaching. She received her undergraduate degree, her master’s degree and her Ph.D. in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.

A statement released by the school praised her experience and her areas of expertise in STEM studies. The school said she excels at creating the kind of collaborative partnerships that are vital to a private college’s success, and pointed to her commitments to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and a top-quality holistic student experience.

Jay Lund, the Chair of the St. Olaf Board of Regents said he is very proud that they have been able to find a candidate like Rundell Singer. He said they see her as a perfect fit, saying she “embodies the mission” of the school, and shares the board’s vision for its future.

For her part, Rundell Singer said she has admired St. Olaf for many years, and is thrilled to be working with the St. Olaf Community.

She also had praise for Northfield in the “Welcome” video posted to the St. Olaf website.

“Northfield is the place I have felt most at home. I love being out and about, whether it’s on my bike or cross-country skiing. There’s something wonderful about living in Northfield.”

Dr. Rundell Singer will take her position in June upon the retirement of President Anderson, who has led the school since 2006.
