Information about climate friendly plans available on Northfield website

The City of Northfield is asking for input from members of the community regarding the city’s Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program.

The goal of the program is to reduce as much as possible the discharge of pollutants from a storm sewer system. The program covers public education, community outreach and participation, a plan to detect and eliminate illicit discharges to the storm sewer system, construction-site and post-construction runoff controls, and pollution prevention.

The City has partnered with Clean River Partners on this program. After hosting a table with information on the program at the Earth Day celebration last week, they are now asking Northfielders to go to the Northfield website at northfieldmn.gov to review the plan and submit comments. Information about the Native Plant, Rain Garden, Rain Barrel Rebate and the Adopt a Catch Basin programs can also be found on the website as well.

In addition, community members can phone in comments in English to the Northfield Engineer Manager, Sean Simonson at 507-645-3049 or in Spanish with the city’s Spanish translator, Claudia Garcia at 507-645-3078. Also, community members can view and comment on the program in person at the Engineering Office at City Hall,

Comments will be accepted through May 10th.

Arts Guild welcomes Dakota Club stalwarts

The Northfield Arts Guild will present the next entry in the 411 Concert Series on Sunday night, when Three, a trio composed of Lori Dokken, Rachel Holder and Judy Vinar performs at the Arts Guild Theater. The Guild’s Performing Arts Manager, Pauline Jennings, said the trio offers three-part harmony stylings of pop songs and standards ranging from Joni Mitchell to Alicia Keys, and has made a home on the stage of the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Star Tribune has called the group a “Twin Cities Cabaret staple,” and Jennings said it’s a rare treat to be able to see them without leaving Northfield.

“These three women have played on all the major stages, including Chanhassen, the Guthrie, the Dakota. You can regularly see these performers there and now you have an opportunity not to have to drive as far, pay less money, come to our beautifully intimate theater and hear these women put together their talents with a lot of three-part harmony.”

The show is set for this Sunday night at 7:00. A pair of young and talented Northfield musicians, Caroline Brice and Maren Coudret, will open the show. Tickets are $25. They may be purchased at northfieldartsguild.org or at the door while available.
