With the Defeat of Jesse James Days, the Northfield Historical Center will be hosting five different seminars about the raid. On Friday at 4pm will be “The Guns of the Northfield Raid” with local firearms expert Andy Ebling. Saturday, there will be four different lectures with, starting at 10am with “The James Younger Gang Before the Raid,” at Noon “The Escape of the James Younger Gang and the Aftermath,” 2pm “Myths, Lies, and Misconceptions of the James Younger Gang” and at 4pm a second edition of “the Guns of Northfield Raid.” The seminars will each last about 90 minutes and cost $20 per session. Interested participants are asked to register online beforehand at northfieldhistory.org
The History Center Museum will also be open throughout the celebration. The museum is the site of the First National Bank, which was raided by the James Younger Gang, and features a recreation of what the bank would have looked like in 1876. Two other exhibits are currently on display in the history center: the History of Pizza in Northfield and the life of Maggie Lee, the longtime editor for the Northfield News. For townie night tonight, the NHC will be open and free to visit from 5pm to 8pm additionally, they will have a special exhibit set up outside the museum with a collection of yearbooks from the Northfield High School and Middle School.
