This weekend, author and musician David LaMotte will be hosting an Understanding Peace and Conflict event. The event is hosted by the Emmaus Justice Initiative, the Northfield Union of Youth, and the Northfield Rotary Club and will take place at Emmaus Baptist Church.
The event starts Friday at 7pm with a concert by LaMotte, on Saturday there will be a peace workshop starting at 9am with lunch served and on Sunday at 10am a worship service with a theme centered on peace with all of the events featuring LaMotte and at Emmaus. A person does not have to attend all three events, but they do ask that you register for the Saturday workshop in advance so they have enough lunch available for everyone. One of the event organizers Susan Quinnell from Emmaus Church said about LaMotte as:
“I think people will find him entertaining and educational. All of his lyrics are original and some are funny, some are reflective. Some are, you know, very philosophical, and I think a lot of people will appreciate his genre.” – Event organizer Susan Quinell about LaMotte’s music. LaMotte left.
The event is focused on understanding, listening to others, and dialogue, something that has been a focus of LaMotte’s and he considers music a way to help people understand conflict.
Understanding others and really in these times of our of our country, really beginning to look at and listening to one another, even in our differences. And I know that’s starting to feel like it’s becoming cliché, but the only way that we can but the only way that we can see through is that. Is when we start to respect one another in our dialogue. – Event organizer, Vicki Dilley
Everyone from the public is welcome to attend the event. You can learn more about the event and register here.
