The Rice County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Sheriffs Association announced last week a Law Enforcement Scholarship Program which will award up to 18 scholarships worth $2,000. The scholarships are part of a program coordinated among all 87 Minnesota Sheriffs to in part provide assistance to people training in law enforcement as a career and to help students struggle with costs so the can succeed academically.
The Scholarship Committee, in making the awards, intends to achieve representation from all geographical areas of the state. To qualify, a student must be enrolled in one of the following programs:
1. Mandated POST Skills Program
2. In their second year of a two-year law enforcement program.
3. In their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program.
Students meeting the criteria can obtain a scholarship application and a statement of procedures from the Rice County Sheriff’s Office or online at www.mnsheriffs.org. The deadline to submit an application to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 and the scholarships will be announced on December 30th.
