The Sonic Archive Appears Around Northfield City Parks

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

You may have noticed recently around Northfield City Parks that a new signs called the Sonic Archive has appeared. The Sonic Archive is a project by The Wandering House, a team of local artists with a mission about “home and belonging” but with a rural perspective. Since 2019 the project has been collecting stories from community members in Northfield, Lanesboro, and Red Wing. Here is Director of Library Services Natalie Draper who has worked with the project:

“So it’s a really wonderful Capsule of Northfield’s feelings on home and how they how they feel about this place, how they feel about what what home means to them, how they feel about belonging here. It’s really beautiful so.”

The Sonic Archive includes hours of short reflections with transcripts available in English and Spanish. The reflections are not meant to be interviews but more time for people to speak about their memories and life.

Signs have been placed around city parks with a QR code in the middle. After scanning the QR code it will take you to a random Sonic Archive reflection from Northfield. Afterwards you can choose to listen to other reflections in Northfield or from the other two communities. The signs are blue and orange and are already in some city parks and will be up around most parks later this month.

You can also listen to the reflections by going to the Sonic Archive’s website: https://sonicarchive.thewanderinghouse.com/
