The Northfield City Council Meets Tonight To Set the Preliminary Tax Levy

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The current Northfield City Council.

The Northfield City Council meets tonight, the main item on the agenda is approving the 2025 Preliminary Tax Levy and Preliminary 2025 City Budget. In August, it was proposed that the tax levy be raised by the maximum amount allowed, 15.8%. After it is set the tax levy can not be raised, but can be lowered. The largest portion of the increase in tax levy would go to cover an 8.6% general budget increase, the city cites inflation and employee salaries as one of the biggest drivers of this number. The city’s debt is also driving the tax levy up as well.

During October and November, the council will continue to work on and adjust the budget. At the beginning of December, the City Council will approve the final budget and tax levy.

Also on the agenda will be an update on the Ice Arena project, including building rendering and site plan. The Northfield Historical Society, Age Friendly Northfield, and Northfield Hospital and Clinics Emergency Medical Services will also give presentations at the meeting.

If you would like to comment at the meeting, You can sign up online by noon or submit a sign-up card to the city before the meeting. You can also provide a comment online via the eComment Button, and those must be submitted by Noon today as well.

The meeting will take place tonight at 6pm in the Northfield City Council Chambers. The meeting will be available to watch online as well by clicking here (this will also get you access to the eComment Button).
